Team Green meeting with Rosie #10

Friday 20th November

We presented our developed ideas to Rosie and she gave us some very helpful feedback. I feel like she brought up things that we were aware needed changing but weren't too sure how to change them. This brought the issues to the surface and forced us to think about how we could fix and further develop our idea.

Rosie's comments from our presentation:

-She couldn't picture it in her mind.
-Less objects in box and these objects have to have more significance to his character and his life.
-We need to have the shots broken down further into a fully drawn out story board and not just a shot list; it should be more visual.
-We need a developed back story for our character.
-Too much repetition with the objects (when he walks back and forth to place them up on the wall and around the room). We need to minimise the repetition, however, this leaves us with nothing much happening in the middle of the film.
-Need to think about the logistics of the bench in relation to the set. Would the bench be on the set or would we film an exterior scene in Farnham park, for example? We would then have to figure out how to transition into the set smoothly. Maybe something for post-production?
-What kind of lights would we use for the hanging lightbulbs on the ceiling? We talked to Chris who suggested festoon lights.
- Don't use fishing wire to hang the lights as it won't be strong enough. Instead, use the studio ceiling bars.
- We need to have a back up plan for if we had to shoot outside. We did discuss that we don't feel like it would need to be too different as we can still have the box but just placed outside; in the middle of a field, for example. This needs to be discussed further, however, and developed a lot more.

After Rosie's lesson on Friday, our team stayed to discuss the project, as it was one of the rare occasions that we were able to talk in person and be all together, all departments. It was clear that there were some gaps in our narrative that needed to be resolved. We all agreed that we needed to keep better communication within the team.

Things we need to fix:

- Develop the script into a more solidified story.
- Camera crew: create a shot list ready for the camera workshop with Anne on Tuesday. This way we can really discuss everything in person as we're around the cameras.
- Have a full storyboard, shot by shot.

We were able to go into G12 (the studio that we will be constructing the set in and shooting our film) which was very beneficial as we could get a sense of the space and begin to really imagine how we'd go about building the set. Chris showed us the flats which was great, as we didn't have a sense of the sizing up until this point; Each flat is 4ft by 8ft. Alya (the art department's producer) and I were assessing the space and agreed that we wouldn't need to build the set as large as the current group in G12 were building it; it simply isn't necessary for the development of the story. Having a smaller set would give us more room in the studio which would be useful for the camera/lighting crew and allow us to use the excess space for other things.
